Wedding Soup
Why is it called wedding soup?
Well, I googled it and found two answers...One, because it is always served at weddings. That could be true in southwestern Pennsylvania because I've had it at several weddings. It's a real favorite around here. Two, because it refers to the meat and the greens in the soup making a good pairing for each other. This answer seems more likely. This recipe is easy and made in the slow cooker or crock pot. Pre-made meatballs are a great help.
Crockpot Wedding Soup
serves 8
12 to 16 meatballs ( I used Aldi's brand of pre-made meatballs)
6 cups low sodium chicken broth
1 cup cooked chicken, chopped
1/2 cups carrot, diced
1/2 cup celery, diced
2 ounces frozen, chopped spinach, defrosted
garlic, to taste
pepper, to taste
*added the last hour - 1/2 cup pastina pasta (tiny pasta)
**to serve, add grated parmesan cheese
cook on low 4-6 hours

Kennywood Park, West Mifflin, Pennsylvania
I grew up just a few miles from an awesome amusement park. This park has been around since 1908. Over the years, several small parks in the state have closed, but this park has continued to grow and draw people from all over the country. We always had our annual school picnic here....oh, what fun and good memories. The last few years, they have re-opened between Thanksgiving and Christmas for
"Kennywood Holiday Lights"
... with food, limited rides, and Christmas music!
It's well worth the trip!!

Pepperoni & Cheddar Corn Muffins {in a "jiffy"}
These corn muffins are so easy, you simply add 3 items to a Jiffy corn muffin mix.
Gotta love it. Taste wonderful with any chowder or soup.
Ingredients:
1 (8 1/2 ounce) boxes Jiffy corn muffin mix
1 eggs
1/3 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 cup sliced pepperoni, finely chopped
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Grease muffin pans, or use paper baking cups.
Blend all ingredients; batter will be slightly lumpy.
For maximum crown on muffins let batter rest for 3 or 4 minutes, then re-stir before filling muffin cups.

Cathedral of Learning - University of Pittsburgh
The Cathedral of Learning, a historic landmark, is the second-tallest education
building in the world—42 stories and 535 feet tall.
In addition to the magnificent three-story "Commons Room" at ground level,
the Cathedral of Learning also contains classrooms, including the
internationally renowned "Nationality Classrooms. "
These 26 functional classrooms in the towering Cathedral of Learning display the rich ethnic heritage of the Pittsburgh area, each architected and decorated in a style that exemplifies the country they represent.

Southwestern Pennsylvania has a great mix of ethnic heritage and culture. During this time of year, Friends are asking “Have you made your Christmas cookies?”
This is a tradition shared in this area by folks of every background. Making Christmas cookies is a must….and plenty of ‘em !
There’s the Italians with the Pizzelles,
So you ask, “what's a lady lock?”
As anyone who ever bellied up to the “cookie table” at a wedding reception in Western Pennsylvania knows, a lady lock is a small, puff pastry cream horn filled with sweet butter-cream icing, usually vanilla in flavor.
One bite conjures memories of grandmothers and great-grandmothers who came from Europe, bringing the recipe with them from the old country. Sometimes the confections are called clothespin cookies because the puff pastry at one time was wrapped around a clothespin to shape it.
You will find these cookies at every wedding, church bazaar or any family event worth mentioning...in fact, Pittsburgh had their first Annual International cookie Festival in November!

Mr.Yuk was created at the Poison Center at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh after research indicated that the skull and crossbones previously used to identify poisons had little meaning to children who equate the symbol with pirates and adventure.

Game 4 of the 1971 World Series was the first night game in World Series history, a series that Pittsburgh went on to win, 4 games to 3.

Invented by Pittsburgh Native and civil engineer, George Washington Gale Ferris. The first ferris wheel was in operation at the World's Fair in Chicago.It was over 264 feet high and was capable of carrying more than 2,000 passengers at a time.
