~ Tree trimming day ~
What the heck is this?
Portable hair dryers that came in a little case with an electric manicure set.
It had a jumbo bonnet for those juice can size rollers that we used in the 60's!
I was around 20 years old in this picture. I had been married for 2 years and just had my first baby (I know, I look like I was about 12!)
I haven't had rollers in my hair for almost 25 years. Thank goodness for blow dryers and curling irons!

A Smile
Lord of the evening,
There are some people who always make me feel better for meeting them. The people who make me smile. They have a warmth about them, an inner joy. After a few minutes in their company, the world seems a better place.
Somehow, my problems and difficulties are not nearly so bad. What gift is it that such people have? What is the secret of their infectious joy?
Lord, I'm thinking about a particular friend, who always makes me feel good. Why is it that I am always lifted up simply by the presence of that friend? I know that to give out warmth and joy is impossible without love. Such a person has to have a loving, caring spirit. Is it that they care more about people than things? Is it that for the few minutes they are with me I catch a glimpse of love at work?
Lord, tomorrow I will meet a number of people, and I would like them to feel better for having spent some time with me. It will mean that I will have to think more about them than myself and that won't be easy, It will take effort. But of all the things that I could spend my energy on, few things could have more value than making someone smile or feel a little love. Lord, help me to bring some joy or warmth into every meeting.

Saturday Photo Hunt
~ American Sweetheart ~
Everyday breakfast dishes included cereal bowls, cream and sugar, cups and saucers and tumblers, which came in three sizes- for juice, water and ice tea. These glasses are the hard to find because they were so easily broken.
The translucent white pattern shown above is called "American Sweetheart" after movie star, Mary Pickford. These were never reproduced so the real thing can be found, unless you are looking for a particular piece or color. Cobalt blue the most difficult to find, with red being next. But the rarest pieces are called "lunch box pieces".They are one-of-a-kind pieces that glass workers made on their lunch hour and took home in their lunch boxes to their wives.
This glass was sometimes giveaways in large containers of rolled oats, boxes of soap powder or a 20 - pound sack of flour.
You could buy a service for eight for $2.98!......now I'm told if you could find a complete set, $298.00 would be a steal. Plates, cups and saucers can now be found as cheap as $15.00, but rarer pieces like the lid to the sugar bowl (notice mine is missing in the top photo) could be priced as high as $455.00. Tumblers go for $200.00 each.
How many blogs are there?
Here is Technorati's latest State of the blogosphere report.
A few highlights:
On July 31, 2006,Technorati tracked it's 50 millionth blog.
- The blogosphere is doubling about once every 6 and a half months.
- about 175,000 new weblogs are created each day.
- There are more than 2 blogs created each second of each day, about 1.6 million postings per day, or about 18.6 posts per second.
I'm really tired after all that counting ... I think I go take a rest.

Friday's " Show and Tell "
Recently, She gave me a few mementos that she had saved for so many years. This was one of them. For quite some time it was framed and hung above their bed.
The verse reads:
I remember when I was a little girl, reading this every time I was in their room until I had it memorized and I thought it was the most romantic poem I had ever heard.
Stop on over at Kelli's house for more Show and tell, and have a good weekend!

Photo Hunt Saturday ~ Theme "MUSIC"
Hobby turned small business venture.....
It all started about 10 years ago, when I bought a heat in the microwave bag at a local craft show. It was just a bag filled with field corn, that would hold the heat for an extended period of time and the bag could be applied anywhere on the body to relieve pain. I brought it home and it worked!
I thought what a great gift this would be!..... But I soon found out that the little lady that I bought it from had retired and was no longer making them.
One day Hubby came home with a tension headache and I told him that I had just the thing for it. He tried it and said that we should make them for family Christmas gifts. The following Christmas we did, and they were a big success. Soon family members were ordering them for their friends. The next year, Hubby suggested renting a spot at a craft show. Again we did well, and even had follow-up orders from people that had received them as gifts!
To make a long story short, 10 years and many, many bags later, we are still goin' strong!! Our handmade bags have gone to 5 countries and over 18 states!
And it all started in our family room . . . . . .
See it Sunday~theme "Route"
Much of the historic Lincoln Highway, the first road across America (from New York City to San Francisco), became part of U.S. Route 30. It is still known by that name in many areas.
Several years ago, Hubby and I took a weekend road trip along this stretch of highway, through the mountains, to historic Lancaster,Pa. We were traveling at night and had gone for miles on this lonely, dark stretch of highway when we came around the bend...... and saw what appeared to be a huge ship in the middle of the highway!! When we returned, a few days later, we stopped at this hotel....and what a view!!!
From the back deck of the ship, you could see 3 states (Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia) and 7 counties!
