PARAMUS, New Jersey -- When Mark Malkoff thought about where he could stay while his New York City apartment was being fumigated for cockroaches, he quickly ruled out friends' places (too small) and hotels (too expensive).
Instead, the comedian and filmmaker decided to move into an Ikea store in suburban New Jersey, where on Monday he unloaded two suitcases into a spacious bedroom at the store.
At night when the store is closed, he says he'll play laser tag with security guards and even plans to host a housewarming party.
"The fact that Ikea is letting me do this is mind-boggling," said Malkoff, lounging on a bed in his new room. "There's no way I'm going back. I love this way too much.
Deputy store manager Julie Mott said Malkoff contacted the store about three weeks ago and presented a proposal to move in.
But despite the hospitality, Malkoff did find a few problems: The sinks don't work, and neither does the toilet, refrigerator, flat-screen television or the washer and dryer.
He must shower in the staff locker room and will have access to the staff cafeteria to cook his own meals, if he chooses, Mott said.
His wife of 2 1/2 years, Christine, isn't as thrilled with his new digs and has instead opted to stay with relatives in upstate New York. "For some reason," he said, "she doesn't want to live in a store."

Did you know...
that the first motion picture theatre in the world was opened on Smithfield street in Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh is a neat city with a rich past. I bet even people that have lived here all their lives won't know about all of these ~

"Chidi Ogbuta of Allen, Texas, poses with her husband, Innocent Ogbuta, on her wedding. To the left is a wedding cake in the likeness of the bride. She had a longtime fantasy of having a doll modeled after her. The cake fulfilled the bride’s dream, and took about a week to finish off."

By the way...
I 've decided to start a photo blog!
http://adailyshotoflife.blogspot.com/
Santa was very good to me and brought me this:
He also brought this 135 page instruction manual!
The instructions state:
Before operating this unit, please read this handbook thoroughly together with the "instruction manual" and the "cyber-shot step-up guide" and retain them for future reference.
Thank you, but I would like to take at least one photo before I'm too old and feeble to push the button!
so, I'm learning by trial and error!
The link will always be over in the right-hand column.
If you can stop over...check it out... and leave a comment!!

~ Show and Tell Friday ~
I found this old clipping from the local newspaper...the year in the top margin is 1944. I was reading the the radio listings for that day and and saw some titles that I remembered from my childhood....Dick Tracy, Perry mason, and then something caught my eye...

THE GUIDING LIGHT!
Now, I've not been one to follow the soaps in recent years, but I remember my grandmother having lunch at 12:00 sharp so that she could listen to "her stories". Each one was 15 minutes long, "The Guiding Light" and "Search for Tomorrow". They were referred to as soaps because the were sponsored by Joy dish washing liquid and Spic and Span.
Here's some info about the series:
Guiding Light (known as The Guiding Light prior to 1975, ) is an Emmy award winning American television program credited by the Guinness Book of World Records as being the longest-running soap opera in production and the longest running drama in television history.
The 15,000th televised episode of Guiding Light aired on September 7, 2006. Due to this series run, it is not only considered to be the longest soap opera, but the longest series of any show created.
The program was created by soap writer Irna Phillips, and began as an NBC radio serial on January 25, 1937 before moving to CBS on June 30, 1952, as a televised serial. This program has survived for over 70 years!

This is almost overwhelming when you think about it...
Moses and the people were in the desert ~but what was he going to do with them?
Do you think Moses figured all this out before he left Egypt?...I think not!
They had to be fed and feeding 2 or 3 million people requires a lot of food.
According to the quartermaster General of the Army, it is reported that Moses would have to have 1,500 tons of food each day.
According to the quartermaster General of the Army, it is reported that Moses would have to have 1,500 tons of food each day.
Do you know ... to bring that much food each day, two freight trains, each at least a mile long would be required!
Remember, they were out in the desert, so they would have to have firewood to cook the food. This would take 4,000 tons of firewood each day.
And just think....they were 40 years in transit!
They would have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11,000,000 gallons each day.
And then another thing...
They had to get across the Red Sea at night. If they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights getting through. So there had to be a space in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5000 abreast, to get over in one night!
But then, there is another problem....each time they camped at the end of the day, a campground two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island was required, or a total of 750 square miles long...think of it!
Do you think Moses figured all this out before he left Egypt?...I think not!
You see...Moses believed in God and God took care of these things for him.
Now do you think God has any problem taking care of all your needs???

Ham and Cabbage
A few days after Christmas, I have a favorite recipe that I always make.
It's a great way to use up any leftover ham...
Ham and cabbage
Put the ham bone into a large soup pot. Fill the pot about half full with water. Heat the water to a rolling boil so that any ham left on the bone will cook off. Add half of a medium onion, chopped.
Boil for 45 minutes to an hour.Remove the bone and pull off any remaining ham with a fork. Discard the bone and put remaining ham back into the pot.
Add about 6 quartered potatoes. I used red ones because that's what I had on hand. Cook until potatoes are tender, then add half a head of cabbage, chopped in large pieces, and a bag of frozen green beans.
Hubby likes a thicker broth so I sprinkle in some instant mashed potatoes. (great as a thickener for soups and stews).
Make sure you make enough for leftovers because it's always better the second day after the flavors mingle!...Enjoy!

Gone for another year...
Today brings an end to the 12 days of Christmas, and it's time to pack it all away for one more year!
Yesterday morning, you couldn't find the dining room table in all this mess...
But by early afternoon, everything was back to normal...and it always looks so bare.

As I was packing away the ornaments, I was looking at the detail in this little "snow lady"that I got at a craft show a few years ago. Her arms and legs are thinner then my little finger. It had to take some time and to turn this fabric and stuff. Her dress is sheer organza with gathered puff sleeves and front buttons.
Her head is made of clay and and a white petal flower forms her bonnet. If you sew, you realize that a lot of time and patience went into this tiny doll!
January 1st was my 200 post!!!
I remember thinking when I started this blog...what in the world will I ever find to talk about.
