Decorating with old Plates

Years ago, I saw this photo in a popular home magazine and loved it! The plate  lined flower bed created a cottage feel that was very inviting. I blogged about it here 7 years ago...

Sadly I forgot about it until recently when Penny over at Penny's Vintage Home posted these photos. She made a collection of flowers and plates in an old enameled wash basin!

Here she added a cup and some small figurines...

So this is my version:

And I've been a cup and plate collector for a long time so I don't know why I didn't do this years ago!!

Hot Sausage Dip

Last month at the church picnic I tried this dish and knew I had to have the recipe!

Hot Sausage Dip

1 pound ground hot sausage, cooked and drained
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 - 24 oz. jar mild chunky salsa
sliced black olives (optional)

Directions:
Cook the ground sausage thoroughly and drain. On medium low heat, add the softened cream cheese to the skillet and mix into the sausage until melted. Add the salsa. Continue mixing until well blended. Add olives, if desired. Simmer for 20 minutes to blend the flavors. Enjoy with you favorite tortilla chips.

* It's not overly hot because the cream cheese balances it out, and the sausage spices give it great flavor! This recipe could also be made in a slow cooker.

Giant watering can

This is not photoshopped!  I was out taking scenery photos one day when I came upon this in a nearby neighborhood.  Later I was told by a friend that this is at the home of a landscaper.
That make sense!

Sheets to Shower Curtains

I love to re-create with sheets!

Think about it.The cost of fabric has skyrocketed in the last few years. All the fabric chain stores have closed in our area except one... creating a monopoly. Cotton blends that used to sell for $2.99 a yard there are now seven and eight dollars!

That's why I use bed sheets. Large pieces of fabric, plenty of patterns to choose from, and you can find them marked down or on sale really inexpensive.

I made this one for spring!
I posted the directions when I made a burgundy and gold one for fall.

I've made shower curtains, valances, table runners, dust ruffles, window curtains, tablecloths...and the list goes on.

I added a new piece of diy framed art!
